May’s Military Homecomings
Camp Lejeune, N.C. – Homecoming Photographer
While I don’t think you’ll find a photographer who doesn’t love their job, there is something extra special about being a homecoming photographer in a military community. Homecomings (for my civilian sector) are gatherings and celebrations of the Marines and Sailors returning home from War and other dangerous deployments. Getting to be apart of this reunion is something extra special that only a few can say that they have had the pleasure of doing during their careers.
On the job – being a Homecoming Photographer
While the rest of the world sleeps, I laid quietly in my bed waiting for THE call. Brrring, it’s time to go, 12pm and we were dressed and off to Base. Just 2 short hours later, you would never know it was 2 o’clock in the morning, with all the excitement, noise and joyful tears ringing from the gym.
See being a homecoming photographer means that you are on call day or night, rain or sunshine. These wives, girlfriends, parents and friends are depending on you to capture this one moment they’ve been waiting for, at times, up to a year. You can’t put a value on the importance of your job, no matter the conditions.
