In preparing for this week’s trip from Florida to New York with pit stops in Jacksonville, NC and Hazleton, PA, I’ve been gathering all of the gear and props necessary for the daunting 7 session and 2 wedding week that is upon me.  6 out of the 7 session involve kids under 5 and 3 of those being newborns.  Yikessss…. It’s ok, we’ve got this.  Newborn photography is probably one of the most rewarding types there are.  You get some snuggle time with the cutest babies and get to provide the parents with adorable images they can cherish for a lifetime.

I usually like to stylize each of my sessions and while doing some research I came across a great article from Angela Pointon Photography who shares some of her tips on “How to prepare for a baby photo session”.   In order not to reinvent the wheel, I’ve shared my favorite top 5 tips from her blog:

How to prepare for a baby photo session

  • Try to keep your baby awake 1-2 hours before the session.
  • Make sure your baby has a full belly prior to the session.
  • The area I shoot in is typically kept warmer than normal, so parents should dress in layers on the day of the shoot.
  • This is your time to relax and let the photographer do their magic; relaxed parents cause a more relaxed baby, as well.
  • If the baby is sick, definitely reschedule the photo session for when he or she is feeling better.

I defiantly agree these are the best tips out there for newborn photography and preparing for a wonderful, relaxed session.
